Lake Pend Oreille, Idaho

Is it Henry Fonda and Katharine Hepburn - On Golden Pond? Or Uncle Stan and Aunt Dot on Lake Pend Oreille?

Our visit to Lake Pend Oreille ("ponderay") was beyond our expectations.  To begin with, we were greeted by Shannon, her dad, Dan Earle and his wife, Jackie Henrion, at their beautiful home on the lake.  The told us to make ourselves at home, and they meant it.  They could not have been more gracious and generous.  Dan is an amazing artist (check out his website at www.dan-earle.com) and Jackie is a talented singer-songwriter (www.mamaloosemusic.com)   Our children, like most, are budding artists and musicians, and they soaked up the creative atmosphere.  Jackie even gave a concert with them in the living room.  (Of course, Hannah and Amanda did not participate, but snuck around tormenting the others while they were rehearsing.)  We had a great time swimming, kayaking and jumping off rocks into the lake.

A day with the Thomas family was just as great.  Julie, Sue and Jay were there, but we missed the Thomas boys and their families.  I still haven't met them, so I'll have to make another trip to Idaho.  The kids spent the whole day in the water and had to earn their ice cream by cranking the ice cream maker with Uncle Stan.  Sue made a campfire and we roasted hot dogs on the fire on the shore of the lake.  It was such fun to spend time by the lake with Julie, Sue, Dot and Stan.  Sue and Jay then invited us all to their house for dinner.  They’ve built a beautiful home on the mountain above the lake, and that is where they plan to retire someday.  We haven’t spent time with them in years, so it was a great visit.   I urge the Eastern Stevens clan to make your way out to Idaho – it is so beautiful!

I have great photos, but they'll have to come later
